peggy, please help, just got rid of my bladder holding tank and was in process of installing a used plastic tank when the lower fitting fell off!, (glued on), what kind of glue do i use to replace it???regards, mike
There's no glue or adhesive that bonds to polyethylene...What looks like glue to you is actually a weld (unless whoever you bought the tank from had tried to glue it back in).Take the to a plastics fabricator (definitely won't be hard to find in the Chicago area...look in the Yellow Pages) that has a spinwelder...spinwelding is the ONLY way to install a fitting in a plastic tank. Won't you much...less than $10.
There are adhesives available now that bond many previously hard to bond materials such as polyethylene. These include glue and hot melt products from 3M. Go to 3M.com and search for 4693 and 3764 (for example).jv
on a vent or inlet fitting at the top of a tank, or even a disharge fitting on a water tank...but I wouldn't risk it on a holding tank discharge fitting at the bottom of the tank until/unless tank mfrs start using adhesives as an alternative to spinwelding to install fittings.
