Help finding a trailer...

I've just joined the ranks of trailer sailers, but I lack the trailer. I need to transport my Cape Dory Typhoon Weekender (LOA 18'6", LWL 13'11", Beam 6'3", Draft 2'7", and displacement 2000lbs) twice a year. I plan to move the boat between Everglades City, FL in the winter and Beaufort, NC in the summer. Around October 15th I've got to meke the move from Charlotte, NC to FL. What are my options? Buy used? Purchase new? Rent as needed? Any one have advice or know of an approprite trailer for sale?

1. Rent as needed. 2. Check Jacksonville classifieds in daily. 3. Check classifieds in biggest Pennysaver. 4. Try sailing the boat up the coast.

Really like the last idea, but...

Thanks for the ideas. Number four is very appealing, but no time in my schedule this fall. I will consider this option seriously in the spring (more time, more personal experience, and less chance of foul weather). Have your rented trailers in the past? Directly from individuals or from businesses? To this time my searches have been limited to ebay and internet forums.

Haunt the Marinas and Boat Yards

You're boat isn't that large and has a relatively shallow draft so I suspect that it shouldn't be hard to find a trailer that will work. In my experience, trailers are rarely advertised but sit unused in the corners of marinas and boat yards. Looking and asking around plus posting "wanted" ads on bulletin boards might turn something up.

used trailers

check classified adds at www.trailersailor.com and good luck . good used trailers are hard to fine. Also look at used construction equipment trailers if you can weld to make them addapt to your needs.
