I am looking for a small sailboat to use to get across the great south bay to fire island [about 5 miles]I will be trailering.Speed is important.Any advise would be appreciated.I am leaning towards a hobie THANKS RALPH
I first had a 14 and up to a 16 which was great and than I got a really good good deal on a 18 hobie which was very fast, but a lotof boat to handle without the right crew.I would get a 16 because it doesn't have dagger boards to worry aboutin the shallow water.Nick
is a great boat... you can get an excellent one with traler for +/- 2,000. Sea Daddler is right about the boards.Class Association is pretty strong... however not like the old days.BRING A GPS and get a trapeeze harness. They are wet... but a lot of fun. If you can sail one of these things... you can sail anything! You will need to backwind the jib to tack. DON'T GET DISCOURAGED.Hook up and hang on!
