I will have a marine survey done before making an offer but I am trying to get my financial estimate of total cost in order and need rough budgetary estimates on the following. There is a new Yanmar engine but nothing else has been taken care of in 10 years. What should I budget for... 1. Sails 2. Paint for bottom and top sides 3. Replace the original 2 burner alcohol stove and oven which has already been removed 4. Replace the original head and all that crazy conduit and smelly holding tank 5. Replace ports 6. Refrigerator still works! PO left beer and tequila which is still cold! Educated estimates or guesses are welcome. I want to make an offer contingent upon acceptable survey but I need to determine in advance if my financial resources will be sufficient to get the boat back up to where I want it. The interior and cosmetics are very good. Deck is fine with no soft or crunchy spots. Minimial crazing. Standing rigging could be tuned and could probably go for another 2-3 years. Thanks in advance for any information and recommendations.

Well, for sails...

I just ordered new main and 130% genoa for my H31 for a little less the $3,200. This was from a local loft dealing with Banks sails.

Check Bacon's in Annapolis for second hand sails that may fit the H34. There are a number of off-shore alternatives for new sails at reasonable prices as well. Bottom paint (Micro CSC) is about $200 a gallon--one will just barely cover the H34 bottom. Get new West Marine and Defender catalogs to use as estimation guides to what equipment costs will be. Assuming you will do the labor part. First year or two is the most expensive as you'll be putting things "right" and making the boat your own. Given the possible neglect, expect to spend money and lots of elbow grease.
