One of my shrouds let loose and the mast went over the side. In the process it broke the tabernacle on the mast. I called Rudy at DR Marine and he said that piece is no longer available. It's the type where the sheaves are inside the mast and the tabernacle is one piece inside the mast and that's hinged to the deck plate.

Does anyone out there know where I may be able to get one? I really love the boat but I don't wan't to spend hundreds of dollars for a completely new mast and set-up.

Thanks.

We broke the tabernacle on our old Balboa 26 years back, we had it welded and it was fine.

If it's stainless steel or Aluminum, it can be welded. I had my mast welded a couple of months ago.

Found a welder

Thanks for your replies. I found a local fabricator who said he can rebuild the broken piece by welding in a new section of aluminum. PHEW!

Hopefully we'll be back on the water this weekend (after a very very thorough inspection).

If you have any stainless steel extrusions on your mast that is in direct contact with the Aluminum, you should try to insulate it from the Aluminum somehow. I coated the inside of the bottom of my mast with epoxy where the S.S. mast plug fits inside the mast and is held in place by S.S. machine screws through the side of my mast. You can use the plastic from a milk jug to separate the two metals. The electrolysis from the two metals were eating away the bottom of my mast.

Trinkka,

That's a good point. The tabernacle piece that attaches to the mast does sit in a stainless bracket. A plastic milk jug sounds like the perfect thing. One more item on the list before she goes back in.

Thanks

Another thing that I forgot to mention is; If there are machine screws holding the tabernacle to the mast, coat the threads with Lock-Tite super (red) thread glue. Otherwise, the screws will loosen up and back off. Good luck!
