Hello, Hope everyones summer is going well. Can anyone tell me if they have the Forespar Tiller Extension, size 27-48 in Foam, .... The Model number at West Marine is 111914 and the manufacture number is 104017 ..... Thus, the question is ....will this work on a Hunter 240 and is it easy to install. I like the extension which comes with the boat but I am looking for one that telescopes so I can sail from the stern seats. Any help and comments will be much appreciated. Kind Regards, Daniel

Tiller help

Hey Daniel, I installed the asymetric part # 377416 24-35 inch extention. Very comfortable even after 2 or 3 hours of racing. The only problem is it's a little bit of a reach from the stern rail seats. Carl h240 Relentless P.S. that's a west marine part #

I have the Forespar..

...on my H26. It came with the boat but I have replaced the mounting bracket so I can tell you installation is simple; drill 3 holes in the top of the tiller, 2 for the screws and one for the tube that holds the extender. You'll also want to add a clip a little further aft on the tiller to hold it in place when not in use. It's great to have, as I found out when the mounting bracket broke and I was deprived of it for a day. I steer from the sternrail seats almost all the time. To protect the foam grip and the telescope lock mechanism, I store it in the cabin; the quick-release pin makes it easy to remove.

tiller extention

first thing I replaced on the 240 and glad I did. Same model as you quoted. Great as can adjust the tiller to where you are sitting/feel confortable etc. as stated work the tiller from the rails seats etc.

Tom, is that a solar panel..

above your bimini? If so, could you send information on model, installation, photo, etc. Looks interesting.

Forespar tiller extension on my 23.5

I've just ordered the same 27-48 inch so I can reach from the new rail seats that have just been installed (haven't even had it in the water yet). On the 23.5, the tiller is a hollow metal tube. I figure I have to jam a 1 3/8" dowell in the tiller so I have something to make the quick-release attachment more solid. Do you all think this is necessary? However, what about water getting into the tiller tube? The boat is 90 minutes away and I don't know if the aft end of the tiller tube is open or sealed shut. With the wood in there, I'm not sure if I should drill all the way through or just partway through the wood. Any ideas or suggestions?

Tap the Holes

The tiller is an empty tube but fairly thick (sounds like my wife describing my head). Machine screws will hold just fine. If you wanted I bet you could pop the end off and get nuts on the back end of the screws. I have the same one on my 23.5 and it works great from the stern rail seats.

Where's the water go?

So, when the extension is removed water gets in the hole but just drains out the back? I don't have a tapping tool. Are they easy to get (and not expensive)?

Exactly

Any hardware store will have them. The tap is probably a couple of dollars and the handle six or seven. When tapping aluminium reverse tour tap after each turn to keep from breaking the tap.

Elaine, Rick

Elaine: yes, it's a Unisolar flexible 32 watt panel, mounted in a frame made of aluminum angle, and attached to the bimini with bimini hardware and tubes. A clever design for which I deserve no credit; it was done by the previous owner. I did add a regulator, after frying a wet cell and replacing it with a Lifeline AGM. I'll try to take some better pics of it next time I go out. Rick, I thought about the same idea (filling the tiller tube with solid material--I was going to use scrap starboard) after the bracket broke, but when it came down to it I just reinstalled the new bracket as is. For 8 bucks and 10 minutes work, if it lasts another 7 years like the first one I'll count myself lucky.

tiller extension

Just purchased (two weeks ago) a Ronstan Battlestick that telescopes. Works very well on the 240. Can easily sail from the stern seats. Easy to attach as well.
