Help, advice!! Swing keep jammed in up position on Beneteau 323

One of my crew trying to help ran the swing keep up until tight, well, yes tight, now the keel is jammed up. Has anyone had this happen, I'm thinking of gently hammering on the work screw with the screw loosened an inch or two into the cabin, but the way that is mechanically not sure if it will help or hurt. Never had issues before and worked 30 days ago just fine.

Welcome to SBO :)

This is a thread that indicates it has happened to others.

Thanks I saw this but never said if he actually fixed it.
I noticed that as well but thought it might help a bit to know that your situation is not unique. :)

This is another thread the indicates there is a winch and cable involved in the mechanism. If you think about it the cable if “overtightened” could have become wedged into other strands already on the drum. Giving it a little slack and having the weight of the keel “pull” on the cable it should come “loose”. I doubt that banging on the screw would help, safely tapping on the actual keel would though.

You might have already solved the problem by now. But just in case, my keel was overrun with barnacles and mussels and lots and lots of mud, which made it very difficult to lower or raise. After cleaning as much of the keel as I could reach while she was in the water, I attacked the other end - the one that the winch handle goes into -- with lots of lubrication. That definitely helped. And the next time, she was hauled to spend the winter on the hard, every time I went out to check on her, I added some more lube and lowered and raised the keel as much as the Poppet stands would allow. I wish you good luck. And please let us all know what you did to solve the issue. Thank you.
