Ready to buy a 272 but I'm a little concerned about a few things.While standing behind the wheel it seems like it would be awkward to trim the head sail. I solo quite often and want a boat I can sail alone easy. also ,with the cabin mounted traveler can I trim the main while behind the wheel? I'm also wondering about the wing keel, not sure if I could handel side slipping, I was told they don't point that good.

Most of your questions will be answered there. My 272, which is tiller-steered, doesn't point well, but no boat with a short wing keel does. However the 2'-11" draft allows me to sail and gunkhole in some pretty shallow water. There are a couple of LE owners who will take the bait on this one and let you know how to lead the lines back where you sit to wheel steer. I single-hand a lot too, but with a tiller and a tiller tamer, the boat will self-steer for a short time if I have to go forward to the companionway where the line clutches are all located. My 272 has a roller-furling system for the 155 genoa, and I do all the tacks and reefing of the main and jenny from the cockpit seats. I seldom go forward unless it is to check the slot or just to enjoy the view from the bow. Tom

solved with autohelm or actually getting used to operating in front of the wheel and using the wheel lock when you can. Upwind the wing operates best at about 20 degrees heel so that the wing bites as it was designed to do. On "Seven" I can lock the wheel, head up wind and not touch anything to steer other than a sail adjustment ... all while sitting comfortably on the high side. Welcome to the "adventure" Vic

Love my 272LE
When I first bought mine I thought that would be a problem. As it turns out its not. I single hand her alot and up until this year I just put the wheel lock on for the short peroid that I went forward to trim. Last winter I put auto helm on and now its no problem at all.
