My son and I just went to look at another 22. We passed on it but I thought the Helm station was so cool!

That gear is worth more than the boat. You could have taken it out and sold it, returning it to tiller steering, and had the boat for free with money left over to purchase new sails.

The whole boat is worth more in parts than it is as a sailboat. Everything from the bow sprit to self tailing winches was over the top. I would buy it but it being a wing keel conversion really turned me off.
If I had a little more confidence in the boat I'm sure it would be really cool.

Wow. That little boat is dolled up, ain't it?
Out of curiosity, what was the asking price?

Yep, I venture that the Edson wheel/pedestal is worth that. Nice looking engine. I like the wooden caprails too, al la Island Packet.
Wonder why the raceways are enclosed..
It would probably make someone a nice boat. I'm prejudiced though, as a confirmed tiller hater. But, it's too cool a boat to decomm, and too expensive to flip.
Say it's been converted to the wing? I'd have to check that out real close..

I'd take that Wing Keel conversion... As soon as we get our swing keel finished, it's going on the market. I love the wheel too! But the boat is a bit small for it really...

The wing keel is no big deal........but all that other crap is ridiculous.... there's absolutely no room in the cockpit...... A 22 foot boat with that big ass wheel and pedestal.... that's absurd..... is the rudder still transom hung or did he change that.

That's like putting marble floors, granite countertops and gold fixtures in a $50,000 condo. It's overimproved..... and therefore, unsellable.

The rudder is still transom hung. The concept seems to be big boat comfort and amenities in a pocket cruiser. Some of the changes that where made are really great ideas. I actually like the bow pulpit idea. The rigging is all decent too, just not the way I would have done it.
To recreate the work done here would take a lot of time and money I don't have. If I had the budget and time I would do a lot of the ideas he did, just the way I would want it.
It didn't help that I viewed the boat on its mooring in 20+ mph winds and 3' seas. Just flipping through the west marine catalog alone you find several thousand dollars worth of rigging on it.

I know Catalina Yachts had a wing keel conversion for the C-22, like they did for the C-25, just never saw one before. Pretty neat.

The wheel unnecessarily takes up too much space and restricts movement about the cockpit. where does one sit .........atop the outboard? It would also be a long & hard earned lesson for me to duck the boom on my unplanned jibes....oops, I take that back about the seat...It clearly has a bucket seat. I can see this in the picture of the young man at the helm sitting happily underneath the 50 ft of 1/2" anchor rode coiled & hanging off the mainsail boom.
