I had perfect helm balance last weekend on my 336 in lower 20kts of wind. Did 6.3 kts of boat speed. I literally could let go of the wheel for a short time and it kept straight. The thing is I was only on the jib.
Now my question is....how can I get a perfect balance when the main is up, instead of heavy weather helm?
Last year, after reading numerous articles on B&R rig tunning I took on the task. I measured both the rake and bend to suggested specs. Reset the standing rigging using a gague and screwed down the forstay probably 6-8" in the process.
I got marginal decrease in weather helm.
The only thing I may still have out of tune is the upper bend. Overall I get the proper amout, but it looks like more is bent aloft then below the middle of the mast.
Any suggestions? I sure did like the perfect balance at 20kts.
