So good to read your post. I'm glad some of us are getting out. Sorry you couldn't raise the main. Still, it sounds like you had fun.
I launched my Hobie in 35 knot winds once, but couldn't get the main raised. I sailed with the jib, but very limited mobility. Probably a good thing we couldn't get the main up. It was also good I had an anchor or I would have become part of a bridge. The next day was 25 knot winds off Key West. I had to wear my dive mask just to see. We spent half the time under the waves as above them. It calmed down by the time we got out to the reef. Our dog Bear seemed to have fun.

There was so much windage that it balanced the Genoa only sail plan to were there was no pressure on the rudder.
