Heaving to on a 29.5

Finally got the boat out on Lake Erie on Sunday for my annual shakedown cruise. Had a few minor issues (having to do with my mainsail getting all tangled up in my lazy jacks). I am relatively new to b&r rigs, as I am used to traditional rigs (i.e. big jib, small main). My question...how to heave to with a b&r rig. Maybe it was just me, but, I could not get the boat to stay still. Any suggestions (especially with regard to wheel position)?

heaving too on a 29.5

Hi tim, I have a 29.5 and do not have any problems with heaving too. I set the sails, sailing in the proper direction. I then turn the boat to the opposite direction without touching the sheets. the jib backs to the wind I keep the wheel locked in that direction and it does maintain a heave too position. If you have no success try to put a reef in the main and try again, and if no success take in some jib and try again. soon you will know the right combo. You are smart to try this out before you really need it.

Just to remember

When heaving to, the boat does not come to a complete stop. It will continue to slip through the water at a very reduced rate as it rounds up and comes back down.
