heave to

What is the way to heave to and also the best way to come out of it. I tried it for the first time the other day and was surprised at how fast we went even then in 10 mph wind. I came about and left jib on starboard side and main on port then tied tiller downwind. I have a 23 foot Oday and still went 1-2 knots. Is that to be expected? Thanks in advance for any commentsChuck

Chuck:Yes, I did a search (Yahoo search). Typed in:sailing heave toI believe it was #10 on the list. Hope that this helps. I found it very interesting.Another way that might be easier. Just highlight the web page I gave, then go to edit and "copy". The highlight your address at the top of your explorer (where it shows what web page you are on), then go back to edit and "paste" the link I gave. Then click "go" and that should get you to the Heave to article.Good luck and fair winds.Gary
