Sweltering In Chicago

We are still sweltering here in Chicago with temps in the mid 90's with humidity to match. What are your creative ways you deal with the heat and still be on your boat.

Air Conditioning

This one addition has changed the way we use the boat. No longer is there a mad rush to leave the marina at the end of a hot humid weekend. Get back to the slip and cool off while unpacking the boat. What a novel concept.

Play Misty ?

Our Marina has a mist system over the outdoor tables which helps beat the heat. I wonder if anyone has tried such a system in the cockpit? Maybe with a little inventiveness and some marketing, I can move up to a Hinkley! Ken S/V Wouff Hong

OK on the water?

On Lake Erie we find that any slight breeze makes it tolerable once on the water. This requires shade of course. Yesterday the winds were so light we were swimming off the boat with the main up! Once back at the slip we used to leave the boat ASAP but this winter I installed a Mermaid A/C. What a difference!

Been nice in Florida this summer...

...the heat index has hardly hit 105-110 degrees. Actually we've had two good sailing weekends in a row in Jacksonville. When sailing in the heat we drink plenty of fluids. Otherwise we try to sail late when the sea breeze is blowing, or night sail.

Come On Down to Texas!

Come on down and go sailing with us! On Texoma Saturday, we put in 6 hrs in 10 kt winds with the temp at 100 and 70% humidity. But, back at the slip, the A/C does help.
