Heat Exchanger

My heat exchanger was totally blocked,
so I took it to a radiator shop. They dunked
it in muriatic acid and then the hot box.
They tested it and the pack inside is
still good, but the housing was cracked.
They silver soldered it and tested it. I'm
to pick it up tomorrow.

Can I trust it now? Any concerns?

As an aside, I cannot find what kind of
FWC coolant to use. The diesel place
didn't have a recommendation. The
manual doesn't specify as far as I can
tell.

Jong,

The good news is that your HE is not under pressure, at least the shell side. With the tube side, more pressure as this is a closed recirculating system.

If done properly, a good solder fix should hold up on the shell side. If anything goes wrong, contact Sen-Dure. They made me a larger/4 pass EH. They make them for Universal engines/Catalina & the price was pretty good.

Another advantage if going this route, is that you can print their copy of a base unit & specify where you want the shell side connections located/rotated. I needed to do this, as I would have had interference with my custom motor mount transitional support plate. The

You can use any standard radiator coolant. Just don't mix the types. It is cheaper at a discount auto parts store.
