Has anyone taken off the heat exchanger on a Yanmar 18 hp 20GM? I want to take the rods to a radiator shop for an acid wash, but I'm uncertain of whether it's a DIY deal. Seems pretty straightforward since it's on top of the engine. Is there a specific gasket that needs to be restored as well? Thanks.

on my 2GMF the heat exchanger came out in one bundle. removed the forward cap and inched out the bundle of tubes which are matrixed into a pod/bundle. you'll need a replacement gasket or 2 (F/B). I used some clr or some vinegar to clean up the tubes in mine- also had long wire pipe cleaners to flush the tubes.
