First of all Happy Holidays to fellow Hunter owners, wish I could say the same for me. Yesterday, the dock master moved my boat from one slip to another, the boat started up fine, but once they got above 1500RPMs the engine stalled. After several engine restarts the engine would stall. They luckily got my boat into the new slip "no harm, no foul" to the boat or others. Within an hour the Carbon Monoxide alarms started going off, so the dock guys opened up the boat to air it out, there was smoke and CO. The dock guys went below, they mentioned that the cabin sole felt slippery, too, so I don't know if that means something leaked all over the place. EGAD!!! the boat is only a year old!!! It's been almost 2 months since I've been on my boat and started the engine, but the last time on board, I revved it up to 2800 RPMS and back down for about 15 minutes. Let it cool down and then shut it off. No issues. This past Monday, my local Yanmar Service rep was supposed to replace the Heat Exchanger as part of the Yanmar MSA, so I'm not sure if the Yanmar tech replaced the Heat Exchanger and possibly didn't finish hooking it up correctly. Could that be the problem ? I do plan on going down December 26, but I'm not sure where to start. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

Sounds Like???

Sounds like some thing is not right and maybe the yanmar rep was at the boat and who knows what he did or dd not do check it out but don;t start it again until you talk with your rep, could be he just did not finish or maybe he did not put something back together right check with the rep before you touch anything unless you know what your looking for. nick

That's what I thought

I thought the same thing, but hoped he would have contacted/called me to let me know he wasn't finished.

you need to go look

at the boat and see what is going on. There are lots of possible things that could be wrong. The thing I question is why was the "dock master" moving your boat?At least at our marina if the yard needs to move a boat they will do it with the work boat and tow it or just move it with lines. The only time the yard runs an engine is if the mechanics are working on it.I'm wondering if the yanmar mechanic did not finish the job and then the dock master started the engine with the heat exchanger either removed or not fully installed.(should have been very easy to note that something was not right when first starting up if the exchanger was not there also wondering why the mechanic would have left a job with out checking his work or at the very least leaving a note not to start engine or disconected the battery or starter so that it would not start if he had not finished). Let us know what you find out.

Job Half Done

Went to the Marina to inspect the problem. When I removed the companionway boards I was hit with the smell of exhaust. Sure enough there was a napkin with the words "DO NOT RUN ENGINE" scrawled on it. After moving the stairs and all the floorboards there was Anti-Freeze and black soot all over. After 6 hours of cleaning, and scrubbing, and Ionizing the air, she smells and looks good again. I called the Yanmar Tech, which they apologized and sent someone out to finish installing the "boiled" Heat Exchanger and inspect the rest of the engine for damage due to the Yacht Club starting of the engine. Needless to say, No sailing until the New Year. Thanks to those who replied. Happy New Year
