Hearing Aids and wind noise - any solutions?

I am a new hearing aid user. I suddenly realized that the wind noise that is produced by the microphones is extremely loud and intolerable. I'm sure I am not the first with this problem, so I am looking for a solution and advice.I have Googled this problem and have found no real solution. Some aid manufacturers (Seimans) claim to have a wind noise reduction feature, but I find that it is not effective enough. My audiologist does not have any suggestions. I have found some clip-on ear muff type items in Europe that look promising but I don't know how to get them. They look like a pocket with elastic that clips-on each ear that you might wear in the winter. I've looked and can't find any locally. They are foam and appear to work like a wind screen on a microphone that you see on newscasts.I can't seem to find any type of wind screen that is made for this purpose. Does anyone have a solution that they know is effective? Or if not, what has been tried and found to be ineffective.Any input would be appreciated.

I know what you speak of

and the foam that covers the earphones for the pocket music systems can be of some help. I just turn my aid off when I am out in the wind.

and anything that covers it

creates intolerable feedback.I've had one for a year.Figuring there's a chance of it getting wet, I just take it off.Seems that's the only cure. Put it back on when you need it.Or hide down below out of the wind

HEARING AIDS

I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE SEIMANS AIDS. I CHANGED TO SONIC HEARING AIDS, THAT HAVE A HIGH AND LOW SETTING, AND THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY ON THE LOW SETTING. THE SONIC AIDS GOT RID OF ALOT OF THE OTHER PROBLEMS I WAS HAVING ALSO WITH THE SEIMANS AIDS.GOOD LUCK!!!!

low tech solutions

I wear them and sell them. Even though many of the newest models have wind noise reduction it only works with light airs. The best solution I've found is a bandanna tied over my ears. Keeps the wind noise down, the spray off, and the aids secure. Feedback is minimised by not having the cloth too tight or too many layers.HTH

I was hoping for a "low-tech" solution and some specific "to-do's" and "this doesn't work". Perhaps there will be some more suggestions.Attached is a link to the European ear muff devices that I referred to in my original post. I wish I could find something like these to try.Removing the aids will solve the wind noise issue, but then I need to have everyone shout at me. Now that they're used to speaking in a normal volume, this change may be difficult for both me and them.I guess that I'm hoping there is some sort of wind screen device that I can attach that will cut the noise substantially.If anyone has a suggestion but would rather not post it here, I am in the owner's directory and would be pleased to receive an email. I almost always search for an item I want on eBay, but somehow this time I didn't do that. I can't believe I overlooked such an easy find.Thanks, I will check it out. Since posting, I did locate a store near me that has them in stock. It was a store off the beaten track that I had not checked when I was looking in the local stores.

I wear a Seimans (and thanks Bayhawk, I'll take a look at Sonic the next time). On the setting that I use in restaurants, etc., the wind noise isn't particularly annoying up to 10 mph. After that, I take it off.On a day when we may be dropping the hook and doing some swimming, I take it off at the dock. I've bought one new aid and had another reconditioned because I went swimming with them in.I usually sail either by myself or with my wife.
