I am looking for information about the headstay of my 1984 Hunter 37 cutter. I need the length, and diameter of the headstay and the diameter of the clevis pin. Or, how can I accurately measure them. I am replacing me 20 year old CDI furling system with a Schaffer ... any a opinions of furling systems would be welcome. thanks tj

1/4" Wire

My 1981 37c has 1/2" Clevis Pins and an original wire size of 1/4". I've replaced most of my rigging with 5/16" wire. Can't help you with the length, you probably need to measure yours as there may be a couple of inches difference from boat to boat.

Wire size.

I am surprised at Charlie's measurement of 1/4". All that I know of had 9/32" forestays and backstays. Only the shrouds and midstay were 1/4". My own 1979 has a solid rod furler so I do not even have a forestay. But I know several who do have the later models.

My Mistake

My Bad, I assumed the forestay was the same size as the shrouds and midstay. Only had the furling system off once several years ago when the mast was painted.

Headstay replacement

Call Seco South of Largo Florida. They have all the specs on the H37C and they made the replacement rigging for My H37C. Tell them which Roller furler you are getting and they will make the adjustments to length. At the same time I had them build and entire new set of standing rigging and at the time(aprox 2002) it was less than $1000. I hope this gets to you before you make a decision. Seco's service and turnaround is great.
