I am installing a snapfurler on a friends 22 and the rigging shop is willing to make me a new headstay "today" but I do not know the pin size or wire exactly. Can someone offer up a bit of info? Bob Kiernan worldmarine-ltd.com yachtphoto.com

as per Catalina 22 owner's manual

I have the C22 owner's manual. They have all of the specs listed. The length is "measured from the center of the eye to the center of the eye or end of stud". The suggested material is 1x19 wire, 1/8 inch diameter. The clevis pin size is 5/16 inch diameter. For a few pennies more, you should go up one size to 5/32 inch wire. I got that tip from West Marine Rigging when I bought my new forestay. They said since there's a furler on the forestay, it's harder and less likely to inspect for or find damage.

C-22's have two different mast lengths

Early C-22's, that is those made before about 1985, have a mast about three to six inches longer than the mast currently employed. And yes, that will influence your headstay length. Hence, one cannot just order C-22 shrouds and stays per se. One must know the length of one's mast as well. Hence, if using a local rigger, the best way to assure the proper length for your shrouds and stays is to remove them and take them to your rigger for proper sizing of the new ones. Otherwise, Catalina Direct can supply the correct length according to your boat's year.
