headstay clevis

last year we lost the clevis for the headstay, my wife could not find a stainless one and bought a galvanized pin in time to have the stick stepped. do i need to worry about this? or should i have it changed? regards, mike

Change it...

...to stainless. Buy a selection of spares to keep with your boat in case one goes in the water.

Eek!

Hi there, Let's see, galvanized steel is stronger and more fatigue-resistant than stainless, but galvanic action trumps these virtues. Get that thing out of there — if you still can — and put in a stainless pin. Since this is a headstay pin, be sure to take every possible precaution before pulling that pin. If you're the teensiest bit uncertain what those precautions might be, for god's sake hire it done. Fair leads, Brion Toss
