Taking advantage of the last couple of gorgeous days before we end our season and move on to winter time activities.
Sailing along quite pleasantly, when suddenly - "BJEUAX!" (it's a French boat...) the top of the roller furling system lets go, and our jib starts sliding down onto the deck and over the top of the lifelines. Matters made worse when my wife hit her knee on the emergency tiller cover as we scrambled to change positions so that I could gather the sail up before it slid completely down the foil. And, of course, it's Friday evening and I didn't get a chance to call either Beneteau or the previous owner/dealer who we purchased our boat from.
Can anyone ID this unit? Every have similar problems, care to share your solution?
We had the mast stepped and all re-commissioning including sails reinstalled by a local shop which was very highly recommended to us... The sail is attached to this unit, raised into place with the jib halyard - clicks "permanently" into place and the the halyard is retrieved and secured back to a loop near the bottom of the mast. There does not appear to be anything on the sail, mast, or other running rigging which could catch and accidentally release it. I've tried searching several furling system manufacturers, but this may be all the way back to 1990, and the components have changed enough that I don't recognize it on any of the sites that I've visited...
Ideas welcomed!
