Headsail size for C27

Last Sunday in my one and oly PHRF race of the season, with winds in the high teens and 6 foot seas, I may have gotten a teensy bit aggressive unrolling my entire old 110 genoa about two miles to the finish. She split.I am looking at used sails due to financial constraints. My question is for sailors in windy realms like SF Bay, as here in Nantucket Sound 15 knots is pretty much the norm. Should I look at a 100%? 110%? Could I use a 'yankee' that has a long luff but a short leech measurement?Is 5 oz dacron too light?I am not too worried about getting a lot of sail out for light air conditions. I just want to try to match an RF used sail to my sailing conditions.Advice??RogerC27 & Mabel #5012Cape Cod

Your PHRF rating and headsail size

I am pretty sure your PHRF rating takes into account your headsail size. Thusly, you might as well take all the advantage of your rating by using a 110%, if that is the size sail under which your PHRF rating was determined.With a foam luff installed, the sail can be effectively furled down to a smaller size and its shape maintained by moving the jib cars forward as the foot of furling sails is cut much higher than a hank on sail.I have a 135% furling jib on my C-22 which is 5 and 1/2 ounces. I can't see how a 110% on a C-27 should be less than than that.
