Headsail Fowling...

Hello,Perhaps I had a little to much whisky in celebration, or whatever, no need to justify drinking good whisky really...It would seem I am being ignored, or my previous and rather unrelated posting titles just make me sound mad...I would like to start a string, or a discussion even, on headsail modifications on the 22 that people have done, or want to do...Initially I brought my boat over thru fog with just the main up, after having purchased it, now I have discovered that the headsail overlaps and fowls badly in the lifelines...I have a few ideas, perhaps you do to, mine involves having a blade jib cut, and putting it to a club so as to make it self tacking...I understand the 'keep it simple' and just sail it philosophy, but Vancouver winters are pretty dank and I am prone to fiddling...Email me, or continue the string, also I am looking for a good 'scalable' sailplan, profile, and plan of the 22 if anyone might know where that can be had...Thanks in advance...SH.

I would like to improve anything that I can - on the boat -- but my headsail does not have a problem with my lifelines ( they go to the deck at the bow pulpit. ) anyway -I thought you needed an answer - even if I did not have anything important to say - Algae

Same problem ... this is what I did

Sean,I had the same problem with the jib fowling in my lifelines on my 1982 O'Day 22. I have the fractional rig and the forestay is about 23 1/2 feet. The luff on my 100% working jib is about 22 1/2 feet. I rigged a turnbuckle, about 10" long to the tack of the jib. This allows me to raise the jib higher thereby giving the jib's foot a little breathing space above the lifelines. It helps, but isn't a complete fix.BTW, I used to live in Richmond, BC and sailed English Bay on a fractionally-owned Catalina 27.Bob McGee
