Heads-up: server change this weekend

Happy 4th, everybody!

This weekend we're migrating the sites to new server hardware. We do this every three years or so because the hardware wears out and/or becomes obsolete. It's actually been four years so we're on a bit of borrowed time!

Whenever we do this we also take the opportunity to upgrade the operating system and software platforms. It's a logical time to do it. However, upgrading software leads can cause a few odd, scattered problems.

We've had the new server running for a couple weeks and I've been using it for my daily work, so we believe it's pretty stable. But there's always something. :)

I'll make another announcement when we actually do the switch but there may be brief periods of odd behavior this weekend.

if you have any questions or new problems (as opposed to the same old problems) please reply here or in Site Talk. Thanks!

Good point. I should have specified server behavior.

The change has been made now so if something is broken please let me know here or via email: phil at sailboatowners.com

If you get an error message please let me know what it says. ;) Also, please include the address of the page (for example this page address is http://forums.sbo.sailboatowners.com/showthread.php?t=172957 ) or a screen capture.

Thanks!

Not a big deal, but on the iPad2, the fora seems to have lost its thread path after the last of the replies to thread. An inconvenience.

Looks like this at the top of the page, but it's now missing at the bottom.

Good job Phil. No problems here. And from my experience running multiple servers in a work environment, you have done much to insure uninterrupted operations. GOOD JOB!

Hi Phil, I don't find ""forum index>forum name" at the bottom of the page, also no quick reply on site talk.

Windows XP, internet explorer

Thanks, Fred. Do you use the forum index>forum name for navigation? It may take me a day or two but I'll get that put back.

Thank you for this forum and all of your hard work.

I'm sent to the store instead of hunterowners home. Then when I selected hunterowners from the menu, it quit.

No Cherubini Hunters on menu

Also, when I select the "Forums" menu, there is no option for Cherubini Hunters.

Phil,

Are you moving CSBB also? It does not seem to be working.

Answers:

Rich: that's a format problem... the header is centered and the body is flush left. Fortunately nothing is missing, it just looks funny.

Delezynski: I will get to the CSBB but it may be tomorrow.

David: Cherubini added to menu. The home page is the same now for both the store and the forums. One for the whole site. When you say "quit" you may be referring to a database error that was appearing yesterday evening. that has been resolved but if you meant something else let me know.

All U Get: Date/time stamps should appear in your local time zone. That can be set in your forum preferences.

My control panel has a big white empty area on the right. Now I can't remember what is "missing".

See attached screen shot.

Problem with ordering

I went to order an item from the HOW chandlery but nothing would work. The site would not accept my previous chandlery login or password. It did not recognize my email address or send me a forgotten password. It would not let me sign in as a guest nor would it process my order as a new customer.

I wil try to call the sales offcie on Monday and place the order.

hunter.sailboatowners.com used to take me to the forum, now it takes me to the store.
