Yesterday I was replacing the furler drum on my 85 C27. I assume the Hood 710 line drive furler was original equipment and I wanted to change it with a Hood single line which I had acquired. After securing the mast with a spare halyard I removed the drum and couldn't believe what I found. The lower extrusion section which attaches to the drum was cracked approximately 90% around the extrusion. This was certainly an impending failure. I can't imagine what could have happened if it failed while reefed during a blow, unexpectedly launching the 150 genoa. Anyway, I thought I should share this...
