Can an owner of an Oday 240 tell me exactly how much headroom there is when standing at the Galley? I am considering stepping up to a larger trailerable cruiser and this is one boat that is of interest to me. There are none of these boats near by for me to look at so an owners response will be appreciated.

Eddie, That information should be available at different O'Day websites...the
boat was named boat of the year by Sail Magazine, but that award may not
have considered standing head room...I'll bet somebody on this website gives you a better answer than me. Also try D & R Marine....call Rudy and speak with him vs. emailing him. PC

The O'Day 240 was the replacement for the O'Day 25, only it had the wing keel. I remember going into the new 1986 O'Day 240 at the Boston Boat Shows and I had to bend down a little in the cabin.

Rudy at D&R Marine had bought all the O'Day molds from the fall River O'Day factory after they went out of business. He had a contract with a boat builder in the Bristol RI area to build his boats. Rudy had about six Sunrise 19 sloops built using O'Day 192 molds and also the Sunrise 24 with the O'Day 240 mold. I also went into the Sunrise 24, many years ago when he had his boats on display in Bristol RI.
I think that it would be safe to say that you would have the same amount of headroom on the O'Day 240 as you would on an O'Day 25.
My 1986 O'Day 222 has a large sliding companionway hatch which allows me standing head room in a minimum space which is good enough for me.

I am 5'9" with my sneakers on. I can stand in the galley with the sliding hatch door closed. (Of course, further in I need to crouch a bit). If you want to contact me about this boat, feel free to at mdranow@hotmail.com. I searched around extensively before I bought one. It's a good boat.

About 5'6". My wife, who is 5'4" can stand upright. I (6'1") have to stoop. Great all round boat though. Doesn't like to point to well but can run away from 27's and some 30's off the wind.

Keep in mind that while on a boat, one rarely stands with both feet close together.

Headroom measurements are great for comparing but hardly absolute.
