One of my spring projects this year is to replace my sagging vinyl headliner. i have been looking at some of the new production boats in the high end class and have seen ridgid white fiberglass headliners that are held in place with Mahagony trim or teak trim. has anyone seen these panels and where do you think I can find them???...They are usually gloss or semi gloss white and look like bead board maybe 3" on center. any help would be appreciated. thanks Rob

Bead Board?

Home Depot has a Bead board material that is composite, but they are not panels. They are 5/16" by 3" and usually 32 in length, Not sure how much bend they have in them.

headliner

check lowes or home depot for something called RFP(reinforce fibor-plastic). it's common in restarants for walls and such. its durable, fairly cheap, and easy to cut and shape. comes in 4x8 sheets. I'd glue it up after removing as much as the old headliner as i could, then trim out with teak or mahoganey(sp). pray for wind lugeman

Headliner

I have just replaced my headliner with stuff called tileboard from Lowes. It is 1/8" waterproof hardboard with a white finish. They make it in several embossed finishes which look like bathroom tile and in plain white without a pattern which is what I used. It doesn't like to be put up unsupported so I added 1/2" plastic foam insulation glued to the raw fiberglass overhead (good for temperature control too) then spot glued the tileboard to the foam where the sheets were big. The old headliner was mounted on 1/2" plywood furing strips and I had to add a couple of new ones. 7/8" by 3/8" teak battens from West Marine and oval headed ss screws with cup washers cover the seams. Don't try to make the new panels too big. They are a bear to hold over your head while you screw the battens on. Put one of the battens up first but leave it loose then slip one edge of the panel under that batten and let it hold the panel while you mount the batten on other side. The old headliner was 1/4" plywood covered in brown naugahyde and going below it looked like you had just crawled up some monster's rear end. Much brighter and cheerier now.

Headliners!

Rob, You did not mention your boat size and Make, so We are all shooting in dark; but I few possibilities came to mind. Starboard or polyethylene sheet comes in 1/8" thickness that is somewhat flexible and might work using Trim sprips. Also, Formica type laminates are available in a thinner "vertical" grade that conform somewhat to curved surfaces. You also have a wide range of colors from which to choose. Good Luck! Jon
