Is this area just forward of the companionway hinges hollow, or does it conceal some structural component? I'm thinking of building a ceiling mounted storage unit for some electronics (VHF, stereo) and other small items. It would go over where the light is now, and I would probably remount the light on the bottom of whatever I build. I might need to run wires above the headliner, and I'm concerned that that lowered area might have a beam or something in it which would block me from fish taping a line back to the panel.

Hollow

This area is hollow, at least it is on my 2001 260. I know that it is because I just finished running some TV Coax Cable forward of that area. If you remove the little square access panel between that spot and the compression post, you should be able to get your hand in there to check that it is hollow.

Access panel

I bought my 97 H26 used. The previous owner put a 2" round access panel in the middle or that beam. it is hollow in side and a great place ti put a terminal block, so you only have to run one cable from the batteries. I'll email you a picture if you want one.
