In search of my next boat Palm Harbor, FL
Ft Desoto

If your are bringing your own boat, the area right around Ft Desoto is pretty shallow, as is a lot of area around Egmont Key. Its all a beautiful place to sail and explore, you just have to pay extra attention to depth.

If you are looking to charter, there is sailingflorida.com and flagshipsailing.com which are based out of St Pete. You can just about see Ft Desoto from the marina.

I sailed out of the Harborage in St Pete for a couple years, and sailed Tampa Bay. Its all good fun.

What and where you want to go from there is up to you. sailingflorida.com has a couple sample itineraries.

HTH. Have fun.

The waters around Ft. Desoto are to shallow for most sailboats. It is a great place to Kayak and they have rentals at the park. Egmont Key has a nice anchorage inside Tampa Bay and from Ft. Desoto you can catch a round trip ferry and spend a couple of hours at a magnificent beach. From the ferry trip you may get an idea of the local sailing. If you want to charter like others have indicated St. Petersburg is the place.
