Opaque tanks prevent algae growth...
'Cuz algae needs light. However, algae aren't the only "critters" that grow in fresh water tanks and plumbing...there's a variety molds and fungi that thrive in the dark, especially in a dark DAMP environment...like the insides of the fresh water plumbing. But where'd you hear that the tank has to be opaque (black)? I've never said that...only that fresh water PLUMBING should be. If you're installing a new tank only to supply flush water to the toilet, it doesn't matter whether the tank is opaque or not...so I'd go with an UNvented bladder...tee the fill line into your head sink drain, the toilet intake line into the bladder. When the bladder needs filling, just run water down the sink.Or, an even easier way that conserves your fresh water: just tee the head intake into the head sink drain. Flush with sea water...then, before the boat will sit, after you've closed the seacock, fill the sink with clean fresh water...flush it through the toilet to rinse all the sea water out. Whichever way you decide on, do NOT connect a flush water tank to your fresh water plumbing to fill it. There should be no connection between the toilet and the potable water supply. If you opt not to use the sink drain to fill a flush water tank or rinse the sea water out of the toilet, you'll have to install a fill for the flush water tank.
