My had compartment stinks. I know it is not the holding tank because the smell is not in the main salon. I'm thinking hoses? I have the white hoses that were original equipment? Any good thoughts out there?
I had the same problem. Now, before I close up the boat at the end of the weekend, we close the thru hull and pump fresh water thru the head. The smell was coming from rotting organic matter in the inlet line.
I have the the same white hoses and had the same problems when I first purchased my 87' 30. Close the intake seacock for the head and use fresh water from your head sink. Add a cup or two of white vingar from time to time, pump thru and let it set for a while. Then pump again with fresh water. No problems...
Is the smell coming from the toilet bowl, or the hoses.I had a similar problem, but the smell was coming from head itself. A rebuild kit for the head fixed that problem. After disasembly, the one way valve leading from the head to the hose remained open, thereby letting the smell come from the tank.Good luck.Ed
I've had the same problem since last year. My holding tank is mounted in the v-berth next to the water tank, I found on the bilge area under the v-berth leaking fluids. I replaced the bad hose with a stiff white hose from West Marine and had to heat it in boiling water to get it on since the hose was very stiff. Following this I still had a leak because it won't seal tight with the clamp on it and will have to put a heat gun on it to soften it to get a good seal. Check carefully!
The valves in the head may be leaking, letting your waste drain back into the bowl.I bought a rebuild kit and replaced all the valves and no more smell.lance
The joker valve only lasts a short time before failing, and when it does, the head smells, it doesn't pump efficiently, and it occasionally backs up. I've had to replace it twice in the last year. Takes 2 minutes, and there's no mess, as long as you pump out first.
