I am currently researching my next winter project and need some input from my fellow sailors. I intend on adding a furling head-sail to my 1982 O'Day 25' sailboat. The first question is what is the ideal head sail size. I was thinking that I would go with a 150% genoa and have my 100% working jig cut to fit the furling system that I purchase (I like the Sea Flex H10000 made by Hood). I have been reading the archives on this topic and there seems to be a problem with the jib cars, IE. the cockpit track does not go back far enough for the 150 Genoa. This brings me to my next question; when do I use the mid-ship block. I currently use the mid-ship block when I fly the working jig and the cockpit track when I fly the genoa. At what point would a 150 reefed Genoa have to be sheeted through the mid-ship block. I have this idea in my head that I could run two sheets on both the port and starboard sides of the boat. The first sheet would run up through the mid-ship block and the second would run back through the cockpit track. In light winds with the 150 fully deployed the mid ship sheet would be allowed to run back and as I reef the head sail the cockpit sheet would be let off as the mid-ship sheet takes over. I really do not want to be changing the sheets all the time as this would defeat the purpose of the furling head-sail. I intend on replacing the stationary mid-ship block with a track system in the future but I am also going to add lines aft from the mast as well this winter.Any info would be greatly appreciated.ThanksDoug
