Is it at all possible to remove the door header leading into the head and V-berth. Is there fiberglass behind the wood? I would have to reconfigure the head door. Has anybody a picture of the header with the wood removed? It might be nice to have 6'+ headroom through out.

Did it leave a knot on your head? Annoying isn't it. I'd like to do the same thing.

Yes but only the 1st time. After that I put some foam pipe insulation on it. All my buddies love it.

This bulkhead and top door sill tansfer the mast weight to the hull. Removal will reduce the force distribusion.

I only hit my head about once a year now.

usually when I turn around suddenly because I realize I left something in the V-berth. Tape a picture of a duck to the thing. Then if you don't remember to duck, at least you can laugh at yourself.

header removal

I have just become caretaker of a 1980 hunter 30 and am in the process of fixing her up, one of my projects is replacing the wood that the head door track is secured to. after removing the finish trim, and the track i noticed the header is a little loose. it seems the only problem removing the header would cause is not having anything to fasten the sliding door track to...so if you can live without a head door.... will send photo when i can...

On my 1983 H30 the header is there but the door doesn't slide. It has been put on hinges and opens towards the hanging locker. I like it the way it is, I just wish that the PO would have done a better job on the project.
