After launching this season I find the head doe snot pump in water. I pump and pump but nothing. The intake valve is open and I am sure it is not clogged. Feels like no suction is happening when I pump. Is a gasket in the unit shot? Any ideas? Bill

I find I have to rebuild my pump every year. You can get a rebuld kit at West Marine, takes about an hour. It is a little late for this advice now, but next winter, and even several times during the season, pump some simple cooking oil through the pump, it will keep it well lubricated.

Had that problem this spring with new head from last year. Try filling bowl with water from a pail and pumping it out, have the switch on fill. It started working right away.

Toilet is a Jabsco...right?
And you stored it over the winter in the "dry" mode...right? If that's the case, your problem is caused by a distorted flapped valve...replace it and it should bring in water. John, why you and others are happy to spend $60/year to keep a $100 toilet working is a mystery to me, when you can spend about $250 once for a toilet that will provide at least 20 years of reliable service if it's just kept lubricated and rebuilt every 5-6 years for the same $60 you're spending annually. That toilet, btw, is a Raritan PH II...rated the best manual toilet <$500 for more than two decades. Quite a few people have replaced their "disposable" toilets with it and will HIGHLY recommend it.

...you write that you don't understand why we keep repairing those cheesy heads? Why I have $800 into mine over 6 years and only the bowl is original? Peggy, I own two old Jaguars and part owner of a wooden boat. Does that answer the question?

Or at worst, keep up with inflation. When you can say the same about a Jabsco toilet--or ANY marine toilet--I'll buy your argument. Some things are investments...others are just money down a rat hole.
