I just got your book. Great reading. ( I can't believe I said that, but true) I have the Jabsco standard manual toilet installed in my Hunter 29.5.

Question: What type of Teflon grease would be the best to use for head maintenance? Spray, tube, and do you have a brand that is better than others?

Once upon a time, Peggy recommended Super Lube (see the link). I had a heck of a time finding it, but then found it (duh) at my local Ace Hardware. I dunno of any thick greases that can be sprayed, so I think you'd better look for it in a tube. And as Rick said, SupLube is considered the best. Follow the link he posted to find it.

Just passing through... and I haven't used it yet but I understand vegetable oil is a safe way to lube the pump. I ruined one rebuild kit with synthetic grease. (The rubber expanded)
Now that I have written this.... I notice I am jumping in with the Head Mistress..... So where do I apply the Super Lube???

You must have used a petroleum grease

Petroleum is HIGHLY damaging to rubber...which is why Vaseline is a bad choice just about anywhere on a boat.

I could tell you that you'll find out where to put the SuperLube if you buy my book...but that wouldn't be nice...and besides, I've posted it here a ziilion times. So here it is again: Remove the top of the pump...stick the nozzle of the tube into the pump and give it a healthy squirt. Pump a couple of times to spread it all over the inside of the pump...replace the top...you're done. Takes all of 10 minutes if that long...and unlike veggie or mineral oil, which has to be added every week or two, you only have to do it once a year.
