Head liner seperation

I am considering purchasing a 1993 Hunter 23.5, but I am concerned about something I saw when inspecting the cabin. There is a 1/2 inch gap between the top and bottom cabin liners on the port side. The top liner is actually bowed inward away from the hual. The gap is about 18 inches long and directly under the port window. Is this normal? I saw no gel coat cracking on the exterior. Should I be concerned?

Sounds to me that the port window is leaking. Did you check the bilge to see if there is any standing water? If you want to test it for leaks, have someone spray water around the portlight while you are in the cabin. See if you see any water coming in or if the liner starts to feel damp.

Fixable??

The bilge was dry, but then again it's been stored for a year. If it is a leaking port window, how big a job is it to fix and how or what could be done to fix the current seperation?

The liner

The liner is just that a liner. As far as I can tell its only purposes are to look nice and to redirect leaks to the bilge. It is quite possible that it was put in warped upon initial installation or that some loose fiberglass or adhesive is pushing a section of it out. If that is the case you may be able to determine the problem by using a feeler behind the liner. any boat should have to pass the leak test. Get you spouse or friend on deck with a hose and see if you can live with or fix the leaks. All boats leak some. A good pressure hose will show you where the leaks are. My 23.5 does not have any water after hard rain, but it leaks a little around the companion way hatch where the waves wash over the forward deck. I hope you like the 23.5. I love mine. Since I have gotten it I have got the set up time below 30 minutes. Thats not much longer than my Hobie takes.
