Has anyone attempted to install a different kind of toilet in the H26? I would like something other than the porta-potty that comes standard but haven't found anything to replace it that seems any better. I've wondered about the possibility of installing a marine head but am pretty ignorant about the complications of that, particularly in the H26. Marv Otto

a good overview

In an issue of Sailing magazine, sometime in the last few months, there was an good article that gave an overview of marine heads. Hope it helps.

You might consider...

Upgrading your portapotty to a "pumpable" 5-6 gallon model. All the convenience of a marine head and holding tank without giving up any storage space for the tank or having to bother with installing an intake thru-hull and seacock--or any other plumbing except a vent and a pumpout line & deck fitting....and because it uses so little flush water, you'll have equivilant number of flushes to a marine head and a 12-15 gallon holding tank. The SeaLand 965MSD is top of the line...and Thetford even makes an "electric" model than runs on 6 D cells. Take a look...and if you still think you want a marine head we can discuss your options.

I put one in a 25

I put a marine head with a holding tank in my old 25 last year. I've been very pleased and don't really miss the lost storage under the vee berth. However, drilling a bunch of hole through your boat is not for everyone. I've never used a pumpable porti potty. Sounds like an attractive option. I wonder how well they flush.

"Pumpable" means it can be pumped out...

I doesn't mean "pump to flush." So a pumpable portapotty flushes the same way, and as well, as the non-pumpable kind...it just holds 2-3x as much and doesn't have to be carried off the boat.
