I'm afraid you'll have to measure it yourself

Boat builders change things year to year--and even mid-year...and so do previous owners. Use Trident #101/102 1.5" hose...for all other sizes use Trident #148. http://www.tridentmarine.com/stage/hose.htm

what boat?

Mike, I did my 1992 Hunter 30 last summer. Holding tank is under aft end of cockpit. Head is just forward of aft berth - no idea how your H31 compares. Based on a major SWAG, I ordered 30' of the 1.5" hose (discharge - both overboard and to holding tank) and 25' of the 3/4" hose (vent and raw water supply). It ended up being very, very close. I had a bit of each left over. Maybe that info will help you get close. Sherry

Sanitation Hose for Hunter 31 :{

We just completed changing all of our sanitation hose in our 87 Hunter 31 last year. Couldn't say inside, it smelt so bad. Took my time over the 4th of July weekend. Wife was a great help. I took the old hose out a section at a time, then measured it and cut the new piece. I don't know your configuration in your boat, but here is what I did to our boat. 1) 34' Feet of Sealand 1-1/2" hose. Defender , Item: 502434, Part #: 306342871 2) 8' Feet of Shields 3/4" hose for the vent. You can use Trident if you want. 3) 1' of 1" Shields Hose to connect the macerator to the reducer in the 1-1/2" hose. Also I advise getting a heat gun, a good hack saw to cut with. This stuff does not like to bent. The heat gun was a great investment, also liquid soap will help to. And of course some new caulking for around the pump out fixture. Good luck, and please feel free to contact me if I can be of any more help at my email address: robt.l.hughes@worldnet.att.net :{

Sealand Odorsafe Hose

Peggy, You used to tout the sealand odorsafe. It's expensive but well worth the money. Why did you change to trident? Tim Welsh H34 S/V Cabo Wabo

Sealand No More

Tim - Sealand used to have their hose manufactured for them by a company out of Australia. They then went to their own manufacturer, which was not as good. At that time Peggy strongly recommended the original manufacturer, which was sold as AVS-96. That manufacturer stopped making the hose, I assume due to not enough demand to justify cost of production. Since that time, I believe that Trident is the best out there now. Peggy, sorry to jump in for you. Correct me if I missed something. T J

You can measure it yourself...

using your existing hoses and a long piece of string. A helper is handy.

34' for an H31?

Robert, your boat must have been plummed differently from my former '84 H31: tank under v, manual pump under v, lines to head and pumpout. Seems like it was 12 or 13 feet in total of the white discharge hose. Vent line was straight run from tank to hull. I posted a fairly detail outline of the process here at HOW a few years back (prob 4 or 5.) If it's still there, it had the specifics. That's one tough job. Be pepared for skineed knuckels, hands and arms.

used PVC

A few years ago, we replaced all the hose with as much schedule 30 or 40 PVC as possible. We used black sanitation hose for only those places we absolutely could not get the PVC into. This required many short sections, elbows, 45 degree fittings, etc. So far, it has held very well and we have had no head odor, since PVC does not permeate. It's essential to have a partner with this effort. My detailed description is in the archives.

Agree with Tim

I am in the process of replacing my holding tank. When I install the new one I'm using schedule 40 PVC for all the plumbing. End of odor period!

Ease the pain a bit too.

Mike: I would think that running the PVC from the head area to the v-berth would be an excellent way to save your knuckles and many 4 letter words. It will also save several bucks too!

Patrick, a Q on the couplings

You mentioned a F-F flexible coupling for the mating to the fittings. Are these available at the same places you get the PVC? I'd love to use PVC for some sections on my boat but am unsure how to find sections that have 1.5" OD in order to couple to tank/pumpout.

Clark The flexible coupling can be found in the plumbing section of most hardware stores. They come variety of size combinations. I had to go back and pickup a 1 1/2" x 1 1/4" female to make the head connection.
