I am on the verge of purchasing a Hunter 260. I am being advised against getting it plumbed for holding tank / pumpout by the sales person. Of course, the boat they have on hand just has a port-a-potty - so they would have to order a new one for me if I want it plumbed. In your opinion, is getting it plumbed more trouble than it is worth? Darren

Ask About a Larger Porti-Pottie

It holds about five gallons and can be plumbed to be pumped out or over. Not much capacity but you do not have to walk it out to dump either. It could be a simple system if your not going to be away from facilities more than a few days. I wanted to put one on my 23.5 but no matter how I measured or what I took off it is just too tall on the 260 it would be just about right.

Marine Head

I have the marine head in my 260, with the 12 gallon holding tank. It provides for more time on the water usage than the portable. So far, I'm happy with it and wouldn't go back to the portable (I had one on my previous boat). One thing to consider is ... how close you to a pump-out station. If a long way, you may still want to consider the portable.

Why should the dealer have to order

a different boat already equipped with a head and holding tank? It's a simple matter to pull out the portapotty and install them. Sounds to me like either the salesman hasn't been there long and doesn't know much about boats either, or the dealership isn't equipped to provide much if anything in the way of service and repairs, if they can't handle that...'cuz dealers upgrade and add on to boats all the time. If they can do it, and if you're ANY good at negotiating, you should be able to get the boat with a head and tank for the same price as with the portapotty, especially at this time of year. Dealers have to pay inventory tax on everything they still have in stock on Jan 1...so they can be HIGHLY negotiable on big ticket items like boats and cars in December, especially the last week in December. So go for it...tell 'em you want a Raritan Compact II toilet (or a PH II if there's room in the head for it) and a Ronco tank if they want to close the deal.

My 260 has a Thetford porti-potti

with a 6 gallon tank. I had it plumbed to be pumped out. I dare say a 6 gallons portable will hold as many flushes as the afore mentioned 12 gallon with a marine head. The marine heads use alot more water to flush effectively reducing capacity.

I have had both. Currently I have a 260 with a marine head. I went with because I had to carry the porta pottie tank up a hill and then to a pump out. My marine pump out is close to the dock I stay at so not a long trip. I agree that they hold about as many flushes because a head uses more water. A head requires more maitaince as it has moving parts but is not too bad. I took mine apart and serviced it this fall and will be ready for spring. You might even ba able to get a higher volume porta pottie. Without the tank for the marine head you have that space for storage, like another battery. I guess it depends upon how far to pump out and how far to carry the porta pottie. corky
