however I would stick with the stuff they sell at your local marine or RV "Superstore". You don't want to be pumping abunch of household abrasives down there to reak havoc with all your seals and gaskets. You have a waste tank in your inflateable... that is totally un-cool! Check the website for your bladder bag... Check "Head Mistress"... You'll have to wait for more posts.

I am with Dave Groshong on this one
the Raritan KO product is the best head treatment in my somewhat limited experience. I got a friend to try it on his Endeavor 32' that is shared by 4 partners and is 'used' quite a bit in the sailing season in the mid Chesapeake region after I read Peggy's book. My friend reacted by saying something to the effect that the cabin smelled better than he could remember and he rounded up the other treatments on the boat to be disposed of. This product is bacterial and when there is enough oxygen (eg., ventilation) in the holding tank it works great (aerobic reactions that don't stink versus the anaerobic reactions which sulphur compounds and stink badly) therefore do not use bleach, ajax or other harsh household cleaners to clean out the bowl (head) as it will kill the active bacteria in the tank. I think that Raritan also makes a product called 'BC' (bowl cleaner) which Peggy also recommends. I thought that it was also a good idea to run some vinegar through the head to help remove some of the scale buildup that can occur in the hoses and fittings but I guess that would be after a thorough pump out and flushing (eg., before dosing with 'KO' again and new bacteria) as vinegar is just a mild organic acid. The other thing to always keep in mind is that if you can pump the tank out as soon as possible after using it for ANY period of time the less chance you will have for any 'solids' attaching themselves to the tank, fittings and hoses. Let it dwell and it's gonna' smell. Raritan 'KO' and 'BC', and no I don't get paid by them but I do use 'KO' in my holding tank.

You've already said that you know what NOT to use--bleach or anything containing bleach, household bowl cleaners or any other chemical household cleaning products including Lysol, PineSol or any petroleum based products...so what CAN you use? IMO Raritan C.P. Cleans Potties is the best choice. It's a bio-enzymatic cleaner that not only destroys odor on contact, but also leaves the bowl shining clean without any brushing and scrubbing...and it's not only environmentally friendly, but also 100% compatible with ALL tank products. For heaven's sake DON'T get it from WM...their price is more than 50% higher than Raritan's LIST price! Before there was C.P., I cleaned the bowl on my boat with little Comet (or any other brand) on a paper towel...wearing rubber gloves of course. The tiny little bit of residue that gets flushed isn't enough to matter. Those are just about your only two GOOD choices. As for the tank, it doesn't need cleaning...just a good product to eliminate odor (almost impossible to do in a bladder) and frequent flushing with plenty of clean water.
