Folks,
I received the following question via back channel and I am posting original question and my answer here for all:
Can you tell me where you got the HDPE ?? I presume it is in white finish ? It looks like you left the screw heads exposed ?? Did you have to cut the angles for the toe rails ?? That is a nice looking installation. Thanks.
My Reply:
First this message should have been asked on the O'Day owners forum. Others have done similar things and others would be interested in the question and reply. That is what the forum is all about.
I live in Greenville, South Carolina and used a local company that sells plastics and cuts plastics such HDPE:
http://www.dixierubber.com/
Therefore shipping was not an issue.
I also bought from them 1 inch nylon rod to replace pivot for swing board.
Since I did project, a number of companies began making Teak look alike plastics. That stuff for the most part is HDPE and UV inhibitors with color added.
All the stuff I had made was white, but if I was willing to wait, it could have been black.
I have a table saw and a router so cutting lengths and rounding edges was doable by me. But Dixie would be willing to cut to specified lengths and round corners. That is really how they make their money. That is custom cutting plastics for customers, not merely supplying raw material.
If you look at their web site you will see that they supply other kinds of plastics other than cheap HDPE. In fact I have an order in right now for some Delrin sheaves to rebuild some blocks.
Note that I am posting question and reply on forum.
