Can't disagree...

with RichH's assessment about the convenience of destination sailing out of the upper middle Bay areas mentioned. We use Worton Creek, Middle River, or Rock Hall as the first stop on the way to other destinations further south.

But, if you want to do just some "day sailing", our North East River location can't be beat for access and convenience.

Our club has members that commute from the Allentown area and some other further destinations. Rich is absolutely correct about the I-95 nightmare--one accident can screw up your whole day! Most members from the Phila. area find the back roads to travel and dodge the Interstate tolls and parking lot effect.

Rt 222 to Reading to Rt 10 to Rt 1 to Rt 272 might work quicker to get to North East. Or, Rt 222 to Reading to Rt 10 to Rt 422 to Oxford to Rt 213 will get you down to Rich's area of the Bay.

Nobody has mentioned the Bohemia river as an option. I have only sailed to it once and have not avoided it . We just haven't gone back over there.

Bohemia Vista Marina now has a swimming pool so you might want to check it out.

Bohemia...

Haven't been there in quite a while. Past memory is that it has its shallow spots and once you get into the Elk River you will find it rougher and you will have to deal with big ship commercial traffic in the shipping channel, at least down to Turkey Point.

We will ck into Skipjack's supposedly discounted rates for next year and Georgetown has reasonable rates also. Worst case we try it for a season and move...

re; havre degrace city marina

latest info on city marina, channel into city marina is totally shoaled in from the last storm. even if you draw less than 3' you can't get in or out of it, unless you take the channel that runs parallel to the western shore down to spesuitie island. however this natural channel is not marked. city marina is in the process of getting permission for emergency dredging. some of the entrances to tidewater marina were also affected but i believe they have been taken care of.

gov charts would be very iffy, since that channel probably hasn't been sounded for god knows how many years.

Re: re; havre degrace city marina

The city had to dredge extensively after hurricane Agnes in 1972. I watched them pulling logs out of the dock area. The bottom will remain soft for quite some while as the silt continues to settle. When last I was down to Owen's the silt on shore was drying and 30 inches deep patches had cracks a couple of inches wide. Just an indication of how wet the mud is.
