First thought, oh it will just be an advertisement for their sails. On the contrary it was bloody awesome.

If you like sailing and ever wondered how a kid who says he hates sailing becomes a professional sailor, ending up the head of a company like North Sail then the video may help you get by another day of this sequester.

I was impressed by the admission that some of his success occurred because he worked at it and the events came unexpectedly. Folks who force issues often find themselves in over their head, and often alone. Learning to fall in love with something when friends were around is magical.

In a way that is what happens here on SBO.

It takes a certain amount of fortitude to stretch yourself to cross a stormy ocean. Especially when tat ocean is the Atlantic.

Certainly racing is not cruising.

I enjoyed the statement about discovery of the need for team work. Not all skippers understand that concept.

Yes!
As is a often stated here on SBO, many sailors are alone in their skill aboard their boats, no matter the number of company. In racing, I would hope that isn't the case, but sometimes, even there, the captains are by themselves in their sailing knowledge. Thus, it can often be the case that we have to content ourselves to being solo sailors, even with others aboard.

Yes Will.
In the context of racing around the bay a skipper is challenged to get the best out of the boat, the crew, and himself. The time frame is short. And the advantages / disadvantages against equal competitors can be razor thin. At the end of the day your off the boat. You rest then you start again.

In an ocean race there is no end of the day, feet on the ground, rest. Success/failure, Survival are 24/7 issues.
