I am considering purchasing an Asym. Spinaker from a used online sail broker. I am doing because of costs and this to see if I like and can handle another sail. This would seem to be a very economical way of doing this but wondered if anyone else has tried this and whom did you use?

Fine if you go to a reputable warehouse.

Stephen: This is a good way to get a good deal on that type of sail. I am not sure that I would do this with a main. Be sure to use a reputable sail warehouse. The good ones have a rating system and tell you exactly what you are getting.

Funny You Should Ask

I'm trying to sell a like new tri radial, poleless crusing spinnaker. My sailmaker tells me a new one like mine is worth about $3200. bucks and to contact a used sail broker. I figured I would sell it for $1000. and give somebody a good deal. I contacted a broker who said he would be happy to accept my listing but would have to sell it for at least$1500 to $1700 to cover his commission for me to net the thousand. So to answer your question, the commission rate brokers charge at least this one is quite steep, so you paying for the price of the sail and their fee.Their fee covers nothing more [no warranty] than if you bought the sail directly from the seller. My advice is try to find a seller on your own and save some money ! Fred Miller S/V M Squared

Take a look

Take a look at Ebay, you can find a spinnaker or two all the time.

Gear Here

Steven, Check out the "gear here" ads on this site. There are always a few cruising chutes for sale. I bought my used spinaker the same way. It was a great deal and a very nice experience. The same "buyer beware" policy exists if you are buying it from another site person. I think your odds are pretty good though. Happy Hunting, Mike D
