Have you ever noticed that things are better when you are on the water/on the boat?

Seriously, canned food is actually good. I rarely have a bad boat meal but if I try that stuff at home I don't want anything to do with it.

The sunsets over the water are amazing. The sunrises are the same way. Look at the pictures you and other cruisers have posted and you will see sunrises, sunsets, rainbows, storm formations, and impressive nature that we wouldn't really notice if we were on land.

Things make sense. Each thing has a purpose and it is clear what it is, most of the time.

Reading this makes you were on your boat right now!

ABSOLUTELY! And camping seems to have the same effect on me.

This was my breakfast last Friday morning while at my slip in the pamlico sound.

It is actually nothing fancy. Folgers Coffee Singles boiled in a pot over an alcohol stove... scrambled eggs with some cut up smoked sausage and some strawberries.... I felt like a KING!

Bad,

Talking about boat food, here are a few ideas.
1.) An old boat friend of mine Jack, used to take cans of tuna & sprinkle soy sauce to eat.
I scoffed at this idea until I tried it.......pretty good for a quick eat.

2.) My friend's wife came up with the best idea she dubbed "Magma Meals," that she would prepare at home.
She would chose a meat, season it & wrap in tin foil. She would do the same for potatoes & veggies, all wrapped up separately yet not cooked beforehand. She would then stack it all up according to cooking times then wrap it all together in one big tin foil. Potatoes on the bottom first, than meat, then veggies, one on top of the other stacked. She would size the bundle to fit in the magma grill off our stern rails.

Heat for a half hour on medium (I love this: "cooking times may vary") & Voilà, a complete dinner with no mess or fuss.

All true.

The ONLY time I will eat Dinty Moore stew (which Pia is convinced is actually just dog food) is during off-shore races. At about 7PM the cooking crew pops those cans and starting warming them. The aroma wafts up the companionway and the entire crew starts drooling. No way that happens on shore.

LOL My girlfriend's (who grew up in Albert Lea) best friend was the national marketing manager for SPAM. Man that gal can talk that stuff up.

That being said, D-Moore IS the go-to offshore stew for racing crews pretty much everywhere.

BTW, Jackdaw, Sue & I are heading to northern Minnesota in early October for my nephew's wedding. We are heading to Walker, a tiny town on Leech Lake, the brides hometown. I can't wait ... it's been 40 years since I've been in that neck of the woods. My brother wants us to stay later at their cottage in Hayward, Wi. I'm lobbying with Sue to spend more time in that area. I expect we fly into Duluth.
