My diver told me that one of the blades on my two bladed propeller was missing. I have to say that I could not detect that there was a problem, other than the boat would move very comfortably at 4 knots. but not higher.
So I'm looking for suggestions.

I wouldn't run it with one blade Dan. It's off balance and may cause other unforeseen problems down the road. Have the diver remove it and have it replaced as soon as possible. This is what I would do.

Something is VERY fishy if you couldn't tell that you were missing a blade from your 2-blade prop! As soon as you put the engine in gear it should have been out-of-balance and there should have been a noticeable shake or vibration, unless only a small part of the blade is missing. Either way, the prop needs to be replaced. If only a small portion of one blade is missing, a good prop shop could posibly rebuild the prop by welding on new material to the blade and rebalancing it.

Yes you would think that I would feel a disturbance with one of the blades missing, but I didn't. In fact I had just come back from a nice sail and then a harbor cruise(under Power) and really didn't notice anything.

However the bottom does need paint and I'm going to replace the propeller with a Martec propeller and do the bottom paint at the same time.

Are O'Days famous for bilisters?? I'll let you know next week

Thanks for the reply

I haven't found any blisters on my O'Day. I'm in the process of ordering some Super Ship Bottom ablative paint from the factory right now. I've had great results with it and have been getting two seasons out of it. It has a high copper content which fights marine growth a little better than other bottom paints I've used. When it dries you don't get that constant bottom paint stink like you do with other paints. My mailman gets to deliver it which is cheaper than UPS.
