Have chock, will travel

The new forum on where to position the traveler leads me to warn of a defect on the 29.5, which has a short traveler at the pedastal. So much stress is brought to bear on the chocks that the long machine screws holding them to bend and finally break. This happened to me again Saturday, but fortunately the unit did not zip off and hit anyone in the face. The force is not just from the traveler banging into the chock (which will definitely break it over time) but from the sustained strain over time of holding the boom in place. I suggest replacing the long screws every 500 miles regardless, or installing bigger screws. Meanwhile, try to ease the traveler down rather than letting it go bang.
