Have 150% Genoa, Need Jib

Hello- We have a Hunter 27 with a 150% Genoa. This does not make sense for new sailers on winds of Lake Michigan! We are looking to trade the roller furling Genoa for a roller furling 100% jib. (I understand it does not make sense to reef roll a Genoa to this exteme) Is there someplace/someone that takes trades or a sail swapping outlet? Because this is our starter boat and the budget is limited.. we really do not want to buy new. thanks!

Smaller Jib

Hey Smokey, On my 1984 H-27 I have recently gone to a smaller jib. I think you'll be surprised to find out that you will lose very little speed, as the boat will heel less. I found this out this season, as I took down my 130% and flew the 110% (original jib)for the first time (had the boat 2 years) during a particularly windy race. It showed to do very well on a more moderate 10 knot breeze too, as I whipped a similar vintage H-30 that was carrying more sail than was I. In any case, try looking in some of the sailing magazines classifies, as there are many outfits that sell used/reconditioned sails. Bacon Associates in MD is one, and there are others. I have had decent success doing this. If you would consider a new one, I'd recommend Somerset Sails in Upstate NY. I shopped for a mainsail extensively, and they had the best price with the most options and best fabric. For a few hundred more, you can have a brand new one.
