During a recent haul out the marina picked up our Catalina 30 by the shaft bending the strut. Is the strut glassed in or bolted on? If bolted are replacements available and approximate cost? Can it be heated and bent back by a welding shop? One additonal question, how can I obtain original manuals for both the boat and the original 9HP diesel? Thank you kindley in advance for your help.

strut

The prop strut on my 28 is glassed in. Looks like it was glassed in on most of the 30's i've seen also. Tightening it last offseason was about $650 of glasswork. Two general statements though: 1. If the strut is bent, the shaft should be bent also? The shaft might be more expensive than the strut. 2. If the yard screwed up hauling you out, they should pay for any damages!! Don't you worry about cost

Mike is right that since they pulled it wrong, they are responsible for fixing it. You shouldn't be hassled with finding out how much things cost at all. Let them figure it out but keep a close eye that what they're putting back in is equal in quality to what was in there before. LaDonna

Is your engine a 5411 diesel?

You can get a parts and service manual from www.torresen.com. They are $25 each. The parts list is number 200138 and the service manual is 200151, just enter into the Universal Parts locator. Hope this helps and sorry to hear about the accident. Jeff
